Where can you find My Game Plan?
You can find the feature within the Performance Center under Match center > My game plan.
What is the added value of My Game Plan?
In My Game Plan, you are in control of the analysis. By building your own query, you can identify events of interest that meet your requirements related to a given Game Phase. In this way, we enable you to extract data-driven actionable insights based on the game principles that are relevant to you.
Where to look when getting started?
My Game Plan contains different (interactive) elements. First, the Game Phases. You can find these at the top left of your screen. Secondly, just below the Game Phases, you can find the match settings. Here you can select a team and the match or matches that you want to analyse. Also part of the match settings is the pitch zone. By clicking on or dragging over the pitch, you can specify your area of interest.
Which Game Phases are supported and how are they defined?
We currently support four different Game Phases, as listed below. For every Game Phase, the definitions of the Game Phase as well as the individual variables that can be used are explained in more detail.
These categories and their variables and definitions are explained in the My Game Plan Glossary which can be viewed using the button below.
Game Phase | Definition |
Attack | Every sequence where the team is in possession of the ball, executes at least 2 successful passes and/or dribbles, over a duration of at least 5 seconds. |
Transition from Attack to Defense | Every sequence where a team loses possession in an open play transition *, resulting in an attack of the opponent that features at least 2 successful passes and/or dribbles, and has a duration of at least 5 seconds. |
Defense | Every game-phase where the opponent has the ball, and starts a sequence from either a goal-kick, throw-in or free-kick on the own half, or from a keep ball situation **. Requires the first event of the sequence to be successful.
Currently only scoped at team pressing. |
Transition from Defense to Attack | Every sequence where a team gains possession in an open play transition, resulting in an attack that features at least 2 successful passes and / or dribbles, and has a duration of at least 5 seconds. |
* Open play transition: any change of possession that happens in-bounds, without a foul being called by the referee.
** keep ball situation: an open play transition where the ball possessing team plays the ball backwards, “unpacking” all opponents. In other words, an open play transition that ends in a situation where all defenders are behind the ball and a new attack starts.
How to create a new analysis?
You can start a new analysis by pressing the ‘’NEW ANALYSIS’’ button at the bottom left of your screen. A new window, the so-called rule builder, opens. Using the rule builder, you can create a new analysis by following these steps:
Name your analysis.
Add a short description.
Select the desired Game Phase (e.g. Attack > Defense).
Add one or more conditions.
Decide if the outcome needs to meet all, any or none of the conditions.
Save your analysis by clicking on ‘’ADD’’.
How to edit an existing analysis?
First, select the analysis you want to edit. Then, click on the button ‘’EDIT ANALYSIS’’ at the top right corner of your screen. Again, the rule builder opens. Here, you can change the following settings:
Rename the analysis.
Adjust the description.
Change, remove, or add the conditions for the analysis.
Delete the analysis using the ‘’DELETE ANALYSIS’’ button at the bottom left.
How to use benchmarks as part of your condition(s)?
In order to evaluate if a score is high or low on a certain variable, some conditions include a "compare to" option. This allows you to set rules based on a comparison with the team or league benchmarks. Choose "compared to the team average" if you want to make a comparison with your team only. If you want to compare with the whole league you can choose "compared to the league average". Comparing can be done with the 5-point scale or you can even set your own custom range.
Scale | Definition |
is very high | The value 2 standard deviations above the mean of value of a dataset on a given feature. |
is high | The value 1 standard deviation above the mean of value of a dataset on a given feature. |
is average | The mean value of a dataset on a given feature. |
is low | The value 1 standard deviation below the mean of value of a dataset on a given feature. |
is very low | The value 2 standard deviations below the mean of value of a dataset on a given feature. |
How to check the results of your query?
When selecting the row or corresponding dot on the pitch selector the 2D animation and video will automatically show you the selected moment. When using the table, you can select a moment by pressing the “Play” button just before the minute in the “TIME” column. If you are using the pitch zone, you can select one or more moments of interest by clicking on or dragging over the pitch.
How to export your analysis?
My Game Plan allows you to export the results of your analysis to your video tool via the XML export. The XML export is compatible with most video analysis tools, such as MyVideoAnalyser, SportsCode, Nacsports, and Angles. Before exporting your analysis, you can select and set the order of the relevant columns using the "CUSTOMIZE COLUMNS" button at the center-right of the screen. When you are satisfied with the table, select "EXPORT TO XML". This starts the download of a .zip file containing the XML file(s). You will receive one XML file for each match included in your matches settings.
Find out more about the XML export in our other features here.
