You can find the Physical League Analysis under the Match Center tab.

Within the Physical League Analysis, you will find multiple views providing you with insights on the physical and tactical performances of your team, the opponent or the league.

  1. Ranking (League Overview)

  2. Performance Quadrant (League Overview)

  3. Team over Time (League Overview)

  4. Performance Quadrant (Season Overview)

  5. Player Positions (League Performance)

  6. Player Comparisons (Player Performance)

1. Ranking (League Overview)

This ranking provides a league overview of the physical performance(s) of all teams participating in the selected league. In this overview, we cover the physical performances mentioned below, with definitions available via this link (and all calculations here) to ensure a complete understanding.

  • P (= Place)

  • Team (= Team)

  • M (= Matches)

  • WDL (= Win/Draw/Loss)

  • P (= Points)

  • Total Distance

  • Hi Distance (> 20 km/h)

  • Sprint Distance (> 25 km/h)

  • Runs Count (> 20 km/h)

  • Sprint Count (> 25 km/h)

Time On Field

Substitute players affect the team average. Therefore, it is sometimes desirable to filter by 'time on field' at the right-hand side. By using the time on field* slicer, players who played less than a certain number of minutes (e.g., 75') can be excluded. This allows you to include or exclude substitutes based on minutes played. In the example below, all players who played less than 75 minutes will be excluded from the averages.

* (= gross time refers to the players' total time on the field, including both 'ball dead' and 'ball alive' time).

2. Performance Quadrant (League Overview)

This scatter plot provides a quick insight into your team's physical performance compared to the other teams in the league.

You can compare teams based on their physical performances when either defender and attacking. Use the 'Possession Type' filter, which is explained below, on the right-hand side to switch between both game principles.

  • Overall Net (= is the time when the ball is alive)

  • Overall Gross (= is the absolute match time, including dead ball moments)

  • Defending (= includes all timeframes when the ball is alive and after which the team is out of possession for more than 5 seconds)

  • Attacking (= includes all timeframes when the ball is alive and after which the team is in possession of the ball for more than 5 seconds)

3. Team over Time (League Overview)

In this view, the performance of the selected team over time can be analyzed. On the x-axis, you’ll find the opponent's name in chronological order. On the y-axis, the Total Distance in meters per minute of the selected team is displayed. The colors indicate whether the selected team played at home or away.

In the second column graph, the y-axis shows the High-Intensity Distance (above 20 km/h in meters per minute). The colors indicate whether the selected team won, lost, or drew the match.

4. Performance Quadrant (Season Overview)

Compare the physical performance of a team across all matches using a quadrant view. Each dot in the quadrant represents a match. The x-axis shows the Total Distance in meters per minute of the selected team, while the y-axis displays the High-Intensity Distance (above 20 km/h in meters per minute) for the selected team in that match. The colors indicate whether the selected team won, lost, or drew the match.

If you want to understand exactly what the 'Possession Type' filter option entails, please refer to this section within the article for a detailed explanation and definition.

5. Player Positions (League Performance)

Compare the physical performance across player positions and team formations.

In the top pane, you can set multiple filters for the entire page:

  • Player Positions (= for excluding or including certain player positions)

  • Possession Type: (= for selecting the game principle, attacking or defending, you would like to analyse)

  • Time on field (= for excluding players who played less than [amount] number of minutes)

The page is divided into three rows to compare (team) formations or a combination of formations. This allows you to choose three different selections and easily compare them. On the left, each row features a formation filter. Select one or more formations to filter the position benchmarks (averages) next to it. Choose 'Select All' formations to view the league average, which includes all formations.

Positions

The player positions used in this view are derived from tracking data. Each player is assigned the most likely position based on their relative position on the field in the context of the positions of others. We differentiate between the following positions: Goalkeeper (GK), Right Back (RB), Centre Back (CB), Left Back (LB), Defensive Midfield (DM), Centre Midfield (CM), Attacking Midfield (AM), Right Wing (RW), Centre Forward (CF), and Left Wing (LW).

Formations (e.g. 4-3-3)

The formations used in this view are based on the event data provider. The formation is typically recorded at the start of the match, so changes during the match are not taken into account.

6. Player Comparisons (Player Performance)

Compare the physical output of all players in the league. The extensive set of filters on this page enables you to make relevant comparisons between teams, positions, formations, players, and matches.

The variables total distance, distance above 20 km/h, and distance above 25 km/h can be viewed as either absolute (volume) or standardized (intensity) values.
