The Stamina indicator calculates the distance covered by a player and benchmarks the value against other players in the same position and league on a per 90 minute basis.

Basic definition

Stamina: Captures the total distance covered by a player.

In this article, we'll explain how the Stamina metric was computed to provide a clearer idea behind the methodology.

In order to calculate the stamina of a player, we go through the following steps:

  1. We identify all events for a player and subsequently compute the distance of a player between events.

  2. Using the data from step one, we sum the consecutive distances to identify the distance covered in a match.

  3. Finally, we aggregate the raw stamina value (per 90 minutes) into a stamina benchmark score by aggregating a player’s data over the last two years to compare their performance to players who played in the same position and league.

  4. A benchmarked score of one to five is the end result of the analysis in terms of calculating the speed. If the player scores five, that means they have a better score than 80% of players in the league and position - therefore, sitting in the top 20%.

Another key element to know is that the Speed indicator includes a two-year timeframe to ensure that most players have a high enough sample size of minutes - if they have played less than 450 minutes, a warning note will appear.
