Tactical League Analysis provides a season-based overview of a team’s tactical performance, benchmarked against all other teams in the selected league. The feature enables platform users to identify tactical strengths, weaknesses, and trends by comparing a team to league averages across multiple performance dimensions.
This analysis is updated automatically as new matches are analyzed and becomes more complete as the season progresses.
Accessing tactical league analysis
Tactical League Analysis is available within the Performance Center.
Open the Performance Center
Navigate to Match Center
Select Tactical League Analysis
When opening the filter panel on the right side, filters are available to select:
League
Season (including retrospective seasons, if available)
Team
Please note: Only matches that have been successfully analyzed are included in the Tactical League Analysis. Matches without completed analysis will not appear, which may cause partial season overviews early in the season.
Using filters to refine the analysis
Filters allow Tactical League Analysis to be tailored to a specific competition context, time period, or team selection. Not all filters are available or applicable in every section of Tactical League Analysis.
Opening the filter panel
The filter panel can be opened by selecting the filter icon in the top-right corner of the Tactical League Analysis view.
Once opened, the filter panel appears on the right side of the screen.
Available filters
The following filters may be available, depending on the selected section and visualization:
League: Select the competition to analyze.
Season: Choose the season for the analysis.
Team: Select the team to analyze and benchmark against the rest of the league.
Match: Limit the analysis to one or more specific matches. When no match is selected, all analyzed matches in the season are included.
Minimum time on field: Set a minimum number of minutes played for player-based views. This filter ensures that only players with sufficient playing time are included in rankings and visualizations.
How season standings are calculated
The method used to calculate season standings depends on the type and completeness of the available data.
Season standings based on event data only
When Tactical League Analysis is based on event data only, season standings are calculated using a normalized approach. This method makes it possible to generate representative league standings even when match coverage is partial or when some matches are missing.
Instead of ranking teams by absolute totals (such as total points or total goals), the analysis calculates:
the average number of points per match, and
the average number of goals scored and conceded,
and then extrapolates these values to a standardized set of 10 matches.
For example, if a team has won all 25 analyzed matches, it averages 3 points per match, which results in 30 points per 10 matches.
This normalization ensures that:
teams with fewer analyzed matches can still be compared fairly, and
league rankings remain representative even with incomplete coverage.
Season standings based on tracking data
When tracking data is available, Tactical League Analysis uses standard season standings.
In this case:
points are calculated as 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss.
only matches that have been successfully analyzed are included.
As a result, standings based on tracking data may differ slightly from official league tables if not all matches have been analyzed.
Overview
The Overview section provides a high-level summary of recent performance and league position. the last matches and league overview shows:
A list of recently analyzed matches
The current league table based on analyzed matches
General
Summary
The Summary section aggregates season performance into a concise overview, including:
Total points
Goals for and against
Points per match
Number of win, draw, and loss
Points gained against top, middle, and bottom-ranked teams
Top = 6 highest ranked teams
Bottom = 6 lowest ranked teams
Most used formations (if available)
Radar charts
Radar charts visualize how a team compares to the league average across three tactical dimensions:
Shots
Passes
Conceded
Each radar chart shows:
The colored area representing the selected team’s last analyzed match
The dotted line representing the season average of the entire league
Hovering over the information icon explains the benchmark and color logic. The radar charts show events and metrics by default which can not be changed.
Please note: Only the last played match can be displayed in the radar charts.
Offensive
Goals scored
This section analyzes goal production from multiple perspectives, including:
Goals per match against top, middle, and bottom teams
Goal distribution by body part
Home versus away goals
League-wide ranking compared to other teams
Goal types
Goal types break down how goals are scored, including:
Open play
Penalties
Direct free kicks
League rankings show which teams excel in specific goal types.
Shot location
Shot location analysis focuses on shot volume, efficiency, and shot origin:
Shots inside and outside the 16-meter box
Shot efficiency compared to league averages
Shot volume versus efficiency relative to the league average, with team comparison
This view highlights shot selection and attacking efficiency.
Goals ranking
Goals ranking identifies:
Teams with the highest goal output, inside and outside the box
Player rankings for goals scored inside and outside the box with efficiency
League-wide breakdown of goals scored inside versus outside the box per team
This helps identify key contributors within the league.
Shots per player
This view focuses on individual shooting contribution:
Ranking of goals and shots per match per player
Shot efficiency per player
Shots and shots on target per match across the season.
The Minimum time on field filter ensures meaningful player comparisons.
Possession
Possession analysis compares:
Average possession against top, middle, and bottom teams
Average possession per team across the season
This section provides insight into playing style rather than direct match outcomes.
Crosses
Crossing performance includes:
Average crosses to the box and success rate against top, middle, and bottom teams
Total and successful crosses into the box compared across teams
Areas where early and late crosses originate from, including the selected team’s volume and success rate
Volume and success rate of early crosses compared to team and season averages
Volume and success rate of late crosses compared to team and season averages
This view highlights width usage and chance creation through wide areas.
Passing
Accuracy
Passing accuracy evaluates:
Average number of passes and pass success rate against top, middle, and bottom teams
Total passes and successful passes per team compared across the league
Top players ranked by average passes per match and pass success rate
Dangerous passes final third
This report focuses on passes to the final third, highlighting creative contribution and attacking intent, evaluating:
Average number of passes into the final third and success rate against top, middle, and bottom teams
Total and successful passes into the final third per team compared across the league
Top players ranked by average passes into the final third per match and success rate
Dangerous passes 16m box
This report focuses on passes into the 16-meter box, highlighting chance creation and penetration into high-value attacking areas, evaluating:
Average number of passes into the 16m box and success rate against top, middle, and bottom teams
Total and successful passes into the 16m box per team compared across the league
Top players ranked by average passes into the 16m box per match and success rate
Long passes
This report focuses on long passing behavior, highlighting directness and progression in build-up play, evaluating:
Average number of long passes and success rate against top, middle, and bottom teams
Long passes per team per match and success rate compared across the league
Top players ranked by average long passes per match and success rate
Forward passes
This report focuses on forward passing behavior at player level, highlighting progression and vertical intent in possession, evaluating:
Relationship between total passes per match and forward passes per match per player
Average number of forward passes per match per player, split by position and success
Defending
Conceded goals
This report focuses on goals conceded, highlighting defensive solidity and vulnerability across different contexts, evaluating:
Average number of goals conceded and goals conceded per match against top, middle, and bottom teams
Total goals conceded per team compared across the league
Breakdown of conceded goals by body part
Comparison of goals conceded at home versus away
Conceded goal types
This report focuses on how goals are conceded, highlighting defensive vulnerability in different situations, evaluating:
Teams conceding the most goals from direct free kicks
Teams conceding the most goals from penalties
Breakdown of conceded goals by type, including open play, penalties, and direct free kicks
Conceded shots
This report focuses on shot volume and quality conceded, evaluating:
Average shots conceded per match and scoring rate against top, middle, and bottom teams
Shots conceded per match compared to opponent shot efficiency across teams
Defensive actions
This report focuses on individual defensive contribution, highlighting activity and defensive involvement, evaluating:
Average number of defensive actions per match per player
Relationship between tackles per match and interceptions per match per player
Defensive actions per match over time across the season
