How to make an API app?

The SciSports Developers Portal gives you full control over how your application connects to SciSports data. Instead of requesting access through support, you register and manage your own API apps and keys directly. On your own terms, at your own pace.

The process works in three steps: register your app and define what it needs, wait for SciSports to review and approve it, then issue API keys and start calling the API.

Getting started

  1. Go to the Developers Portal (https://developers.scisports.app/)

  2. Navigate to API access and Apps

  3. Click ‘Register App’

My Apps gives you a clear overview of all API apps registered under your account. Each app is listed by name, type, status, visibility and date created. Every app has its own credentials and approved scopes; API keys are issued per app.

Fill in your app details

Customer

You read SciSports data from your own account, for example, into a BI tool or scouting database. Customer apps are private by default and only accessible within your account.

Third Party

You build a product or service used by (multiple) SciSports customer(s), who authorise your app with an API key. If your app writes data, SciSports assigns it a source type on approval.

For Third Party apps, also select an environment:

  • Test: private to your account, localhost redirect URIs allowed, lower rate limit. Use this during development; register a separate production app when you go live. This needs approval by SciSports.

  • Production: reviewed by SciSports before going live. Redirect URIs must use HTTPS.

App name

The name of your app as it will appear in the portal and on the consent screen.

Description

Describe what your app does and why it needs access to SciSports data.

Technical contact

The name and email address of the person responsible for this integration. This contact receives status updates about the app.

Logo

A square image (PNG, JPEG, WebP or SVG, max 256 KB), shown on the consent screen and in the catalogue.

Authentication

Select the authentication method your app will use.

Select your scopes

Scopes define exactly which data your app can access and what it can do with it. They are grouped by product area: General, Recruitment Center and Performance Center. For each resource, select one of the following:

  • Not used (no access)

  • Read (retrieve data)

  • Manage (read and write data)

Only request the scopes your app actually needs. SciSports reviews every scope selection before approval.

Read more about the available scopes here.

Review and submit

Review your app details and scope selection. Accept the API User Terms on behalf of your organisation, then click Submit for Approval.

Your app status is now set to Pending. The technical contact will be notified by email once a decision has been made. Your credentials are visible in the Credentials tab immediately, but remain inactive until the app is approved.

After approval

Once your app is approved, the technical contact receives a confirmation email with the granted scopes and a link back to the app. Your credentials become active and you can issue API keys from the Credentials tab.

API keys are scoped to the permissions of the approved app, issued per environment or team. Each key is shown once at creation: copy and store it securely.

Inside your API app

Once your app has been submitted, you can access it from My Apps. Each app has three tabs.

Details

An overview of your app: name, type, description, logo, technical contact and agreement. Use Request Change to update any of this after submission. Please note that the changes are reviewed before they take effect.

Credentials

Your Client ID, token endpoint, authentication method, rate limit and client secret. The secret is shown in full only once, so store it securely. API keys and an example request become available here once the app is approved.

Scopes

An overview of your approved scopes per product area. If your requirements change, request a scope change directly from this tab. Your app keeps its current scopes until SciSports approves the update.
